► A new version 4.0 PCB permits the interface to be configured for SGC tuners such as the SG-231 and SG-235 that use separate lock and reset lines in addition to the SG-230, SG-237, and SG-239 that use a combined lock/reset line. Note: The old version supports the tuning functions of the SG-231 and SG-235 but does not support the lock function on these models.

The tuner interface is now available with connectors for either Icom or Alinco radios. A new firmware version permits you to place a jumper to select either the Icom or the Alinco mode of operation. This new version 4.1 firmware is now shipping with all wired units, kits, and PCBs.

GeoTool now has the Delrin insulator available for the mobile whip. This is a great way to provide the necessary insulation and minimize shunt capacitance. The cost is very reasonable too. We highly recommend the use of one of these insulators on any multi-band tuner and short whip combination.

It has been reported that some IC703s will not reliably put the interface into bypass or tune. If you have this problem, change the value of R1 from 10K to 33K. New interface units are supplied with a 33K resistor at R1 in order to ensure compatibility with the IC703.

Note that the IC703 and IC746PRO do not support the bypass on band change feature.

Note that not all of the SGC tuner models have the undocumented "forced full retune" feature found in the SG-237.

Some of the tuner interface cases we have recently received are a bit close on tolerances and the PCB can be a tight fit. Sometimes they fit into one side (top vs. bottom) of the case better than the other. In the worst case we've found a couple of "swipes" of a flat file on each side of the PCB will allow a good fit. You don't have to remove much PCB material at all to make it fit properly.

DigiKey has notified me that their P2051-ND tantalum capacitor used in the Tuner Interface is being discontinued. DigiKey number 399-1420-ND is an equivalent part.

All wired tuner interface units now undergo 100% testing before they are shipped. Previously they received only a visual inspection and a check to make sure that the oscillator on the PIC was functioning correctly. Although I have never had a reported failure, I have added code to the PIC that works in conjunction with a special test jig to exercise all of the inputs and outputs to ensure that the FETs are good and the radio cable is properly wired.

Can't find the PC board that was supposed to come with your tuner interface kit? Check inside the case. We are now shipping the kit PC boards inside the case for added protection. This also makes sure that you have a proper fit (we do the filing when needed).

On 7/19/06 DigiKey advised that the crystal used in the Tuner Interface is being replace by a RoHS compliant part. The DigiKey number for the new part is 300-8309-1-ND.

To function with an IC7000, resistor R2 (10K) must be removed from the interface. With R2 in place, the IC7000 fan will run full speed and a high temperature warning will be displayed. If you use the interface with earlier Icom radios as well as the IC7000 then you can leave R2 out. It should not affect operation of earlier radio models.

We have had to increase the costs of our Tuner Interface kit and wired units by $5.00 to cover a manufacturer's increase in the cost of the cases.
